Otavalo station

The Otavalo station is in the city of Otavalo, Imbabura province, at 2,565 m above sea level, on a variant of the Freedom Train. Otavalo is known worldwide for its craft market, the most famous in Ecuador, and for the cultural strength of the Kichwa Otavalo people, skilled in weaving and trade.

The Plaza de Ponchos fills each day with textiles, tapestries and colourful handicrafts. Around the city are the San Pablo Lagoon, at the foot of the Imbabura volcano, and the beautiful Peguche waterfall. Otavalo combines tradition, landscape and one of the most living and recognised Indigenous identities in South America.
