Yaguachi station
The Yaguachi station, in the San Jacinto de Yaguachi canton (Guayas, 10 m above sea level), holds a place of honour in history: it was here that the first locomotive in the country ran in 1873, on the pioneering Yaguachi–Milagro section. It is a stop on the Tren Crucero and the Train of Sweetness.
Yaguachi is also an important religious centre: its Sanctuary of San Jacinto draws each August one of the largest pilgrimages on the Ecuadorian coast, with pilgrims from all over the littoral. The station thus combines the memory of the birth of the Ecuadorian railway with a deep tradition of popular faith.
