Guamote station

The Guamote station is in the canton of the same name, in Chimborazo, at 3,050 m above sea level, along the route of the Tren Crucero. Guamote is one of the towns with the largest Kichwa population in the country, which strongly preserves its language, dress and community organisation.

Its great attraction is the Thursday Indigenous market, one of the most authentic in the highlands, where animals, farm produce and weavings are traded. For years Guamote was the end of the reopened Quito–Guamote stage of the tourist train in 2012, before the rehabilitation to Durán was completed. Its heritage core preserves adobe and timber houses.
