Colta station
The Colta station is located in the Colta canton, Chimborazo province, at 3,200 m above sea level, beside the historic Colta Lagoon (Kulta Kucha). It is a stop on the Tren Crucero and the Trail of the Ancestors, in an area with strong Puruhá and Kichwa roots.
Here stands the Balbanera church, considered the first church in Ecuador, founded in 1534. The lagoon, surrounded by reed beds, is home to birds and Indigenous communities that keep their traditions, dress and language alive. The Andean landscape, with Chimborazo in the background, is one of the most photogenic on the line.
