The Latacunga station serves the capital of Cotopaxi province, at 2,750 m above sea level, along the route of the Tren Crucero. Latacunga is a colonial city built with volcanic pumice stone, known for its rich religious and mestizo tradition and for sitting at the foot of the majestic Cotopaxi volcano.

Its main festival is the Mama Negra (the Holiest Tragedy), a colourful celebration that blends devotion and Andean syncretism. From the city you can reach Cotopaxi National Park and the spectacular Quilotoa Lagoon, a turquoise crater lake in the heart of the highlands.
